Preventing Dry Eyes by Exercising

A team led by researchers from the University of Waterloo have learned that regular aerobic exercise can be another solution for relieving dry, itchy eyes as members during a trial had shown a significant increase in tear secretion and tear film stability.
During the trial, 52 members were divided into two groups (athletic/non-athletic) to participate in an exercise session. Visual examinations were also performed before and five minutes after each exercise session, where tear secretion and tear break-up time were assessed.
While participants in the athlete group showed the largest increase, study author, Heinz Otchere says all participants experienced a meaningful boost in tear quantity and tear film stability after the exercise session.
