Development for Digital Aid for Diagnosing Eye Diseases

Aston University’s College of Health and Life Sciences have merged forces with Belfast-based Cathedral Eye Clinic (CEC) through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). The partnership is expected to run until June 2023 and is focused on developing a digital decision support system that will apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to improve patient quality of care through enhanced diagnoses of eye diseases.

The KTP will explore the potential of bringing AI into dry eye clinical systems, CEC approached researchers at Aston University to investigate both the methodology and implementation strategies for using AI to diagnose and manage dry eye disease.

Professor Moore, from CEC says: “We are really excited to be working with colleagues from Aston University to develop a better understanding of how patients with dry eye can be identified in a more effective manner. This will impact many patients and clinicians around the world and the findings could even be translated into other areas of detecting ocular pathology.”
